Salt River Portraits

My sister and I photographed Nancy and Kevin and their daughter at the Salt River before they welcome their brand new baby. Nancy and her family live in our neighborhood, just a 5-10 minute walk away. I’m so glad we are neighbors!

The Salt River has always been one of my favorite places to go for all sorts of recreation - I love going stand up paddle boarding, getting to see the wild Salt River horses, going out there for picnics and just to sit by the water, I love tubing down the Salt River and I’ve been biking out there. My absolute favorite thing to do is to go out there and watch meteor showers. Darker skies = seeing more falling stars!

But something I’d never done, and been wanting to do for quite a while, was do a photo shoot at the Salt River. I’d love to do another one. Something we learned is that it’s pretty busy at the river, week days might be less crowded than a Sunday afternoon. I photoshopped a lot of people out of their images. I’d rather make it so that clients have a more peaceful experience and find a quieter time to go.

We met up at Phon D Sutton and then just before the sun set, we headed to Granite Reef. Phon D Sutton was beautiful, but I’d really like to go back to Granite Reef. I feel like it has a lot of potential.

Justine's Family

Here are some of the family portraits I took for Justine and her family at Veterans Oasis Park in Chandler, Arizona. Veterans Oasis Park is a gorgeous location and a pretty perfect place for family photos - there’s a little of everything: meadow areas, cottonwood trees, lakes, picnic pavilions, a flowing spring with gorgeous desert trees, citrus and fruit trees, lots of paths to meander down, little cottontail rabbits all over the place. I highly recommend visiting this absolute gem of a park!

Justine is part of the group Desert Bloom Multiples - which describes itself as “an inclusive support group for parents and caregivers of multiples (twins, triplets, and higher order multiples). We accept and embrace members of every age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and nationality.” The group is in the East Valley and welcomes anyone in the Valley/Phoenix metro area. They seem like an extremely fun group; they get together and do lots of activities! If I had twins, I would definitely join them so I could be a part of all their social activities!

I created mini sessions portraits for ten Desert Bloom Multiples families in one weekend in March. Justine and her family were my last family to photograph, so I had a little extra time with them at sunset and we were able to get a variety of photos in different locations.

I loved how these family portraits turned out!

Easter egg hunt

Every March and April I photograph Easter egg hunts and I absolutely love how much fun they are and how we always get really beautiful photos. The kids have a blast and their families get lovely photos to hang on the walls of their home or office.

I started photographing Easter egg hunts at my mom and dad’s house on 2 acres in Gilbert ten years ago, and now I mostly photograph them at the Queen Creek Wash in Queen Creek, at Nichols Park in Gilbert, and Veterans Oasis Park in Chandler.

Parents dress their kiddos up in their cute spring outfits (sometimes frilly beautiful dresses and cute bow ties, other times much more casual) and we meet up for the kids to get portraits and then to do the Easter egg hunt. I like getting the really cool eggs - every year there are different types of pretty sparkly eggs to buy from Target.

So first we snap some beautiful portraits - the type you can hang on your walls of your home - and then I tell the kids I am going to count to 3 and say “Go!” and they can run around collecting the eggs. Sometimes I put candy in the eggs, sometimes not - it just depends on the preference of the parents.

I met up with these three siblings and their mom and dad at the Queen Creek Wash. Their outfits are just so cute! Scroll through to see the photos we got!

If you’d like to be part of the Easter egg hunts in 2023, scroll down to the form below and I will put you on my list to be contacted in early 2023.

Look at the difference in these beautiful trees at Veteran’s Oasis Park in Chandler, Arizona taken about 20 days apart this spring! Leafy green branches (in the top photos) last week and flowering light pink blossoms just a few weeks ago (in the images below.) I think maybe these are apple trees, because they have little green fruit on them. But I will go back in a few weeks to see for sure. Maybe they are peaches?

The top photos are of my toddler nephew Jonathan hunting for Easter eggs and looking super cute doing it. After the egg hunt, we headed up the little hill to the bubbling oasis the park must be named for - the litlle creek that sends water to the lakes in the park. This park is gorgeous and pretty unique for the Valley of the Sun - I highly recommend visiting it if you feel like you need a dose of nature. Jonathan loves wading in the creek and I know we will be going back there this summer so he can play in the water (much closer and easier than driving to the Salt River.)

The photos below are Kelly and her triplet toddlers amongst the flowering blossoms of these gorgeous trees! Oh how I loved how these photos turned out for Kelly and her little kids! We really lucked out with the light layer of clouds blocking out the sun in the middle of the day and with these trees being in bloom. The light we had was pretty dreamy and rare! When we first got to the blossoming trees, the clouds were not covering the sun and I was wishing badly that I could have been there in the early evening with this little trio and their mom and grandmother. And then the BEST thing happened! Light clouds moved to block the sun and we got the perfect filtered light of my dreams!

The triplets’ grandmother started blowing bubbles for them - scroll down to see how they all wanted to start climbing up the hill to get to her and the bubbles. And then their mom Kelly started blowing bubbles for them. One of my FAVE photos that I have ever taken is the photo of the bubble magnifying the desert globemallow (a.k.a. apricot mallow) flowers. Scroll down and check them out!

This photo shoot of the triplets makes me want to do two things: 1. More photo shoots with babies and bubbles. And 2. Go take more photos of desert flowers magnified by bubbles.

I think I will do both!
